Programs Needed:
This tutorial is made to match Adobe Photoshop CS2. You can download a trial
version here. If you have an older version, the programs are very similar. They should match pretty well.
Steps:
(To view the thumbnail in full view for more help and understanding on that particular
step, just click it.)
1. Open Photoshop and go to File; New; and set your height and width to 400x300 pixels. Like
mine below. (It doesn't have to be 400x300 but that works for now.) Don't change anything else.
2. To start, copy and paste two pictures onto your new image, as you see below. (You should
try and have the backgrounds of the image be relatively similar so they blend together better.)
//Tip// Be sure to arrange the pictures how you want them so when you start blending you don't have
to do much moving around. And you don't have to only use two images, you can use as many as you want but for practice,
just start with two.
3. Click on the Rectangle Marquee Tool on the toolbar in the upper left hand corner (see here). And set the feather to about 24px (see here).
4. Choose a selection of your selected photo and click backspace a couple times until you are satisfied
with that area.
//Tip// You can always use the eraser tool to get rid of unwanted sections of the photo or set the
feather to 0px to cut it very smooth and clean. It just won't be as blended or "fuzzy" as it would be at 24px.
It's softer and blends better there.
5. Continue to do that until you are happy with the image. You can do that as much as you'd
like until you're happy. Wala! You made a blend!
6. Once you're satisfied with the blended image, it looks pretty boring. Spice it up a bit with
patterns, brushes, and text. You can even go even further and overlay images on top. See below examples.
(For sites to get brushes and patterns, go to the home page, then the Hot Links page on the right hand side in the Links Around
The Site Box. There are also some in the updates box on the homepage as well.)

Things You Can Do With The Simple Blend:

The PSD came from Lime-Light.
Once you get blending down, it's up to you to be creative with it. I will continue to make more tutorials
showing you how to do the above things with your graphics soon.
